Support Your Neighbor with Seasoned Gives

With COVID-19 continuing to spread and millions of American’s out of work one of the nations most urgent problems has only grown worse: Hunger.

According to the 2019 Census, there are over 34 million people living in poverty in the US. Food banks in New York have seen a dramatic increase in demand as many in our State struggle to put food on the table. “More than 1 in 5 Black and Latino adults with children said as of July 2020 they sometimes or often did not have enough to eat, according to the commissioned report. That was double the rate of white and Asian households. It also found that women, households with children and people of color are at greatest risk of hunger” (ref: Commission Report from Feeding America).

COVID-19 has only served to exacerbate poverty levels. Feeding America has estimated that levels will rise to 50 million people facing hunger before the end of 2021. Northwestern University, has reported that food insecurity has more than doubled as a result of the exacerbation of the economic crisis brought on by the outbreak.

At the same time, New York’s farmers have been faced with their own unprecedented and extreme financial difficulties. Many have lost up to 50% of their markets through the closure of schools and restaurants, leaving them without a place to sell their perishable goods. The Black Farmer Community, who were already struggling making $1 for every $5 a white farmer makes in NYS, were some of the hardest hit. According to the USDA Census, Black farmers net -$903 annually while the average farmer’s net income is $42,875.

Seasoned Gives is dedicated to creating lasting solutions to poverty, hunger, and social injustice through the promotion of entrepreneurship and financial literacy. By connecting farmers, makers and producers of color and those who need support the most, we are addressing the gap between the economic plight of businesses and the needs of the community. Seasoned Gives, a non-profit organization located in the center of a food desert in Kingston, NY with roots anchored in the community.

Currently, our organization operates on a small scale, relying on individual donations and the hard work of our dedicated volunteers. While we recognize the value of our services in our communities, we also understand that we need to expand our reach and our impact.

With the funds we raise, "Support Your Neighbor" will develop demand-responsive programs which address immediate crises. For example, we will purchase produce from local farmers to supply food pantries, churches, and families with food. Also, we will provide apprenticeship and employment opportunities to those who have limited resources or opportunities

The time for action is now, and we’re counting on you to help us meet current needs so that people can flourish and succeed. Your generous donations will not only help individuals, but also be instrumental in promoting community cooperation, entrepreneurship, self-sufficiency, and equity!
